Charter yachts are quoted per week, and the rate covers the yacht, the crew and the insurance. It does not cover what you use.

Running costs — fuel, food, drink, port fees, taxes, the shore excursions your crew arranges — are handled through an advance provisioning allowance, normally 30 to 35 per cent of the rate, paid before you board. Whatever is left goes back to you at the end of the week; whatever runs over is settled on board.

This is why two quotes that look ten thousand apart can end up the same. A boat that burns 400 litres an hour and a boat that burns 180 are not comparable on the headline number.

Ask for the expected APA and the fuel burn at cruising speed. Any broker worth working with will have both to hand.
